Our Story

Conceived by three friends passionate about good food and good coffee, Red Kettle’s menu is a medley of both Western and Asian flavours with a contemporary touch. It’s a place envisioned for families and friends who would come time and again to enjoy quality comfort food without feeling ‘jelak’*

*JELAK (MALAYSIAN/INDONESIAN) – SATIATED BY A FOOD, PARTICULARLY A FOOD THAT IS TOO RICH, TO THE POINT THAT ONE FEELS REPULSED BY IT.

Our team of bakers and chefs work tirelessly behind the scenes producing most items in-house – from
freshly baked burger buns that hold the patties in place; to our homemade pork bacon and sausages; dips
and sauces, preservatives-free bread and cake selections. If you do hear an unsettling blare now and then,
please do not be alarmed, that’s just the bakery oven calling out its latest goodies.

Pre-Order

Pre-orders are offered for selected bakery creations, including Whole Cakes, Artisan Breads, and Portuguese Egg Tarts.

All other menu items, as served in our restaurants, are available on Beepit for same-day/immediate delivery or self pick-up.

Pleasant and comfortable cafe that attracts a full house brunch crowd on weekends. The signature breakfast was satisfying, more tasty and balanced than the sourdough version. Similarly, the pistachio dirty latte was more pleasant than the iced yuzu matcha. The fried nian gao, a CNY special, was a delightful dessert.

Generous food portions with prices at the higher end. Satisfactory service. Visit for something different from a normal diet.

Red Kettle – Gardens Mall

A great spot for a relaxed breakfast or coffee in Kuala Lumpur. I visited in the morning and really enjoyed both the food and the calm atmosphere.

The breakfast was well presented and delicious — silky eggs with hollandaise on toast, paired with a properly made coffee. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared and consistently good, without being overcomplicated.

The café itself is spacious, light-filled, and comfortable, making it ideal for a quiet catch-up or an unhurried start to the day. Service was efficient and friendly, and it never felt rushed.

Conveniently located inside The Gardens Mall, it’s an easy and reliable choice if you’re in the Mid Valley area and want a sit-down breakfast or coffee.

Would happily return.

Stumbled upon this place at Gardens, and it was as a very pleasant experience.

Loved the food and the ambience.

A great place for a weekend outing or even a quick weekday lunch.

Ordered the Pork Burger. Is it suppose to be pinkish in the middle? I was of the knowledge that, unlike beef, pork should be fully cooked. And the pork burger is very salty.

Was here before, ate their seafood chow mein which was very good, therefore I am back again.
This time we ordered the seabass sambal tumis. Fish was cooked perfectly with a crispy skin, the sambal was very tasty without being overly spicy. The sides that comes with it was perfect. We also ordered the Porkie rice bowl which was roast pork with a sauce, perfectly poached egg and some mushrooms, served with a sambal sauce. Without the sambal sauce, this dish would have been pretty average tasting as the sauce was rather bland. Honey bacon toast was alright, just too little of the bacon. We ordered hot chocolate which was a dissapointment coz could hardly get the chocolate taste and it was not hot enough. It was more milky than chocolatey. The portugese egg tart takeaway is one of the best ever tasted. Eggy and creamy soft centre and love the traditional crumbly tart which is so hard to find compared to the normal flakey crust.
Prices is on the high side, service is excellent.

Wait time super long. Even a warm
Water also need more then 15min
A hidden cafe located at the corner end of Gardens Mall. It does not has big signage but a small one showing you where it is located. It is famous for their portugese egg tart but it was sold out. So we go for the cheesecake which was thick and solid type, and also the pistachio cookie which has good nut taste but a bit dry. The decoration is very nice and peaceful.
Service was not ready. No cutlery even foods and serve. Staffs were very low morale and very clueless
not sure why.

After a satisfying meal, I went for afternoon tea with friends. Portuguese tart is probably the most famous, but I was too full from the previous meal to only have a small taste. The carbornara with what appeared to be dried shrimp was crunchy but a bit hard, and the flavors didn't quite match. Adding RM 15 for cooked salmon was a last-minute regret… The next dish was minced salmon, but the portion seemed small…

The kombucha pineapple was okay, but the other one had a very strong ginger flavor, clearly fermented to a high degree, making it difficult to drink. I barely managed to finish it.

The place was large, but I don't know if it was an echo or something else, but the volume of people talking made the environment very noisy. Even my friend sitting opposite me could barely hear me.

All the cakes were small pieces, but considering the alcohol in the tiramisu, the price seemed reasonable. The kunafa chocolate was incredibly sweet; don't order it.

The oyster blades beef… also a small portion, although the taste was good.

Oh, and one of the interns had a really hoarse voice and wasn't wearing a mask... Restaurants should all have masks on, even a semi-open, transparent one would be better than no masks at all.

There's a room with a mother-and-baby sign and a mother-and-baby room.

Overall, the food wasn't to my liking, the portion sizes weren't commensurate with the price, and I'm probably too poor to go back.

Very mediocre food….. not worth the price at all…. All the drinks are 10x the price hike when an Ice lemon tea tastes just Rm3.50 but charges you rm10?? Daylight robbery! Same goes to their Rm15 Americano.. 🙄🙄…

All food portions are small if you’re a big eater… not enough even after ordering two meals… regret coming here…. Waiter also got our order wrong for hot coffee and then brought ice instead.. when I told him “hot” in the first place and he served it saying : Eh?! Then why you order ice?? DUDE….?? That’s why you write down orders not try to “remember” them…. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 or next time have a QR code order…

I have been visiting Red Kettle since they first opened, but my most recent visit (yesterday) was extremely disappointing and unpleasant.

The prices have increased significantly, yet the food quality has clearly declined.

Orders:

Pork Angel Hair Broth – Bland broth and extremely tough meat. I nearly choked while swallowing it. I did not request a replacement only because we were rushing for a movie.

Old School Chicken Chop – The only reasonably edible dish.

Chilli Garlic Prawns with Bread – Far too spicy; my parents did not like it.

Portuguese Egg Tarts (2, takeaway) – Both were broken into pieces when opened at home.

Cold Brew Coffee (RM17.90, excl. tax) – Very small portion (around 150ml), not worth the price.

Cappuccino

Total bill: RM170

Service was equally disappointing. I requested warm water for my mother and agreed to the RM0.90 charge, yet it was never served.

At the cashier, I asked for a paper bag to take away leftover sourdough bread, or anything which I could wrap the bread. The staff insisted they only had pastry boxes or a paid plastic bag (RM0.30). Despite explaining that a paper bag would suffice, and is standard for a bakery, the response was dismissive and came across as arrogant. Being asked to pay for a plastic bag just to throw it away later is unreasonable and not environmentally responsible. Not to mention about food wastage.

Overall, the arrogant service attitude, high prices, and declining food quality made this a very poor experience. With so many alternatives in the mall, customers are better off dining elsewhere. Sadly, Red Kettle is no longer what it used to be.

My favourite item at Red Kettle is definitely their egg tarts — buttery, rich, and very satisfying. They’re easily the highlight and worth ordering.

That said, the food overall was fairly mediocre and didn’t quite stand out for the price. I also tried the festive hot chocolate: flavour-wise it was good, but the portion was small.

Red Kettle is on the pricier side, with drinks averaging around RM18, and the hot chocolate going for RM20+ despite its size. Nice for egg tarts and a treat, but expectations should be managed for the rest of the menu.

Expect to queue for 30minutes or more at a cafe style restaurant that does not take reservations, not for the faint nor hungry. Slightly above average Western fare is served here, hence the crowding is unjustified. The pizza is not spartan like original Italian serving, but with generous toppings spilling over in the bite. The famed Macau eggtart the highlight of this kitchen was a total disappointment with an egg centre too soft due to overdilution in the recipe. The tart presented fell apart too quickly at first bite. The best are still enjoyed at Macau and at Hong Kong's Kings bakery.

I had approached RK 2 weeks prior to Christmas in person to make a booking, but they made it clear they do not take reservations. Explained to them that I would have 4 aged seniors in their 80s and 90s with me, but they assured me there will be room for us without booking. I repeated 3 times to ensure they understood my challenge, but each time assured me not to worry. Even discussed their Christmas menu. What happens when I turn up before noon on Christmas day? A queue where someone said it would take at least an hour to be seated. Never again will I dine in a place that prioritises filling tables over human decency. If they had warned me that it was likely to be full, I would have made reservations elsewhere without risking the elderly make an unnecessary tiring trek up. Red kettle it is, just beware you could be scalded where it hurts

To be fair, they provided good quality ingredients + good portion. I suspect the other comments don't really understand their ingredients. Likely don't know the price of ingredients lately. (Please check at some decent super market)

Their big breakfast could be shared with 2-3 person.

They were also kind enough to tell me the waiting time is 30 minutes. So if you insist to wait and hoping for like 5 stars service, I think you have entitlement issue.
Yummy food. Don’t be dishearten by the queue. Very good egg tarts. Make sure you grab some when you leave.

Their Portuguese egg tart is awesome. All boxes ticked. The crust is shortcrust, which i like. The custard is so jiggly & smooth, literally melts in your mouth. It’s also rich in egg & buttery taste. Definitely one of the best egg tarts i have eaten.

Don’t be greedy. One tart at a sitting is enough. Two, you’ll be overwhelmed. It’s very rich.

This is the most frustrating dining experiences I’ve had at The Gardens, considering I’m having lunch in this mall every week day.

First of all, the restaurant does not accept reservations at all, regardless of whether it’s a festive season or not.

We visited in a large group (20+), and the staff refused to join tables together. Fine-but when we asked whether the distance between tables could be slightly reduced (around 40 cm) so our group could at least sit closer, they also refused. Apparently it had to be 60cm based on my rough measurement.

As a result, our group of 20 people was unnecessarily split across four separate tables. To make matters worse, at one corner of the section, five of us were seated across two tables arranged as 2×2, with one person sitting at the side. Even then, the staff insisted that this arrangement was not allowed and demanded that the two tables be separated further.

The rules were rigid to the point of being illogical, and no clear explanation was given. The entire experience felt unnecessarily restrictive and made what should have been a social meal extremely uncomfortable.

This restaurant has stricter health and safety standards than the oil and gas industry!

We came to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. The staff were friendly and the place feels cosy. The coffee was very good as was the food. The mushroom pasta and classic chicken chop were delicious. They also provided a candle with our cake order. The cempedak cheese cake was fragrant with full cempedak taste. The prices are higher in line with the food quality.

The staff here were super friendly and really helpful, which made the visit pleasant. The food didn’t quite live up to expectation. I had the classic pork chop — it tasted fine but nothing special, and it was quite small for something billed as a pork chop in my opinion. Overall, decent service and atmosphere, but I’m not sure the food is worth the money.

Had a lovely dining experience at Red Kettle @ The Gardens. The Portuguese tart was a highlight — perfectly baked and truly melt-in-the-mouth. Food took a little longer to arrive, likely due to peak-hour crowd, but it was understandable.

The space is big, comfortable, and a huge plus for mums — they have a dedicated baby nursing area and nappy changing room, which made things very convenient.

We tried the smoked duck spaghetti and carbonara; both were decent and satisfying, with just the right portion size. The sea bass was very flavourful, though slightly on the salty side.

Overall, it was a great experience, made even better by the friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely come back 😊

The Portuguese egg tarts here are truly the best in KL! They melt in your mouth, with distinct layers that aren't too sweet—each bite is pure bliss! 😍 If I weren't worried about the calories, I could easily devour three in one go.

However, this restaurant also has its obvious drawbacks. The soundproofing is terrible, and during peak hours, it gets incredibly noisy. You have to raise your voice to talk, making it unsuitable for casual coffee conversations. 😅 The seating isn't very comfortable either; you'll find yourself shifting positions halfway through the chair, making it difficult to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Taste-wise, it's perfect, but the ambiance definitely needs improvement. The egg tarts are practically unbeatable; it's just the space that drags it down. But for that melt-in-your-mouth sensation, we'll still frequent this place. 👍

I enjoyed the food here — it was genuinely good.
However, I was quite disappointed with the service.

While I was still eating, a staff member came over twice asking if he could clear my plate. The second time, after I said I wasn’t done yet, he sighed and said “haiya” before walking away.

It made me feel like I was being rushed to finish my meal just so they could clean up early, which really affected the dining experience.

Garlic bread: good. Mushroom soup: a bit salty and watery for my liking, lacks flavor, horrible considering it's rm29. Carbonara: somehow didn't like it, salty and tastes like mass produced cheese sauce. Chicken chop: bland, chicken tasteless and relies on the sauce only. Chicken was a tad undercooked too. Won't be returning. Branch at Starling is better.

Food is fine, pretty much what you expected but I was there only once and that will be the last.....staff and store manager was very selective of their client by race, the western client gets better service. Very obviously allows 2 western client to take a table of 4 .... maybe simply cause they are slightly bigger and needed more space but....insist that asians are not allowed to take the table of 4 right next to the western client even if is available and were very rude to us indicating no other table if you don't listen to their instruction...but the table of 4 was available right next to the western client and no reservation ....im not referring to during the MCO...it was way before MCO. ....1 star rating is the max that it is worth for the service...it is not the food.... or the ambience or how expensive you look....bad service....that's just too bad...many other great restaurant appreciates local client much better than you do....

It’s funny - we’ve wandered through Starling Mall more times than we can count, shopping, eating, catching movies… yet Red Kettle somehow never blipped onto our radar until this weekend.

We’d tried their Gardens Mall branch before, so the menu wasn’t a mystery - but the string of negative reviews about the Starling outlet’s service did make us tread in cautiously.

Thankfully, our worries were unfounded. We were greeted with a bright, easy warmth and settled in quickly. Then arrived the parade: chicken chop, pastas, fish and chips - followed by a comforting hot chocolate and a waffle crowned with berries. The food landed solidly above average, each dish lifted with thoughtful little touches that showed someone in the kitchen cared.

And the dreaded “poor service”? Never appeared.

So now Red Kettle finally has a place on our Starling Mall map - a newfound option we’re genuinely glad to add to the rotation.

ordered here via beep app yesterday. took 2.5 hours to arrive. per the customer service i have talked to, it's due to 'the restaurant's late preparation and are overwhelmed with orders'.

no food is worth waiting 2.5 hours for, in my opinion. tried to cancel but since they have 'started' the preparation already, was not able to cancel.

after receiving my food, the rice was not properly cooked. the inside was still hard and same with the grilled corn. it was not cooked properly. and this is after i paid RM150+ , excluding the delivery fee.

after waiting for that long, they should have at least given me a properly cooked food.

you could have closed the option so no one could order online or just cancel the order if you can't do it within the acceptable time.

It's been awhile since Red Kettle moved from Taman Desa to The Gardens. This was my first as I "shy" away from MVC area (due to traffic and parking issues). The menu has expanded A LOT .. with more choices. Food was still decent and didn't scrounge on the portion. The was a difference in the Portuguese Tarts - lacking in aroma (from TD days), though still good but would much preferred the old taste and aroma. Environment wise can be rather noisy at peak hours like a fish market .. though they claim to have sound absorbing panels.
This place has some killer condiments. The dine-in oink roll was overpriced though and the sides on the dish were better than the pork which was just ok.

Interesting interior, already with lovely Xmas decors. It was not crowded during tea time. Food was average. Desserts was excellent. Tried the Dutch Baby and Fish & Chips. The batter for Fish & Chips was a little too thick but crispy. Onion rings were oily. Portion was good for both. Dutch Baby was like a big breakfast set.
Loved the Rum & Raisins cheese cake and Portugese Egg tart. They were perfect. Coffee was okay. They charged for warm water which tasted a little weird. Like time to change water filter.

I dined in today and ordered a finger food and a glass of juice. When I made my payment at the cashier, I was initially greeted with friendly service and a smile. The staff also introduced some new products, which I politely declined.

However, after I said I wasn’t interested, the staff’s attitude changed noticeably — their expression turned disappointed and the warmth in their service disappeared. This was quite surprising, as the shift happened immediately.

I hope the management can look into this, as consistent and courteous service makes a big difference to the dining experience.

Food is good but pricey, this is our 2nd visit at this outlet. Latte is fine as well, we are back today 🙂 ordered my favourite again plus we added sourdough cheese bacon eggs and angel hair in broth, yummy , we are back again , yummy , we been to this outlet more than 6 times 😁 this round we tried fish burger, not bad, as usual i eat my my prawn chilli sourdough my favourite, my son ate spag bolog

The food is consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting — perfect for a casual meal or a cozy catch-up with friends.

The Portuguese egg tarts are a standout — served hot and fresh, with a perfectly flaky crust and smooth, creamy custard filling. You can tell they’re made with care, and they’re best enjoyed right out of the oven.

I also tried the Cajun prawn with mantao, and it was flavorful. The prawns were juicy and well-seasoned, and the mantao buns were soft with a slight crisp.

Another dishes was the ayam percik — tender, aromatic, and packed with spices. It had that authentic grilled flavor and portion was generous too.

Overall, Red Kettle delivers on taste, presentation, and comfort.Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality and taste make it worth the splurge. Great for a treat-yourself kind of meal!

Food here is delicious, coffee was rich and aromatic. A must order for me would be their egg tarts 🤤🤤

Came here for a group lunch. The menu isn’t anything extraordinary – we just ordered what looked okay from the picture menu. The plating was nice, but the taste was just average. My friend ordered the pineapple coffee, which tasted a bit unusual, just as we expected when deciding to try it. Portion sizes are quite big, so I couldn’t finish one dish on my own. Overall, it’s okay – this is my third visit since it’s usually not too crowded, which makes it convenient for group dining without a reservation.

Ordered 3 items:

1) Red kettle Special: which is the iteration of egg yolk vietnamese coffee (I think), the coffee is pretty strong, overall quite good.

2) Classic Pork Chop: my expectation is this supposed to be like hainanese pork chop, but hmm the green peas did well it's not hard, it's a plus point, while the wedges at bottom is near perfection, crunchy on outside, soft on inside (can be softe). And the sauce hmm not something I like sadly, it has a bit of sweetness but lack of the tanginess, it also came with 2 but chunk of carrot on top. Lastly the pork chop, generous in portions, and it's pretty thin slice yet a bit slight chewy kind of texture, and biggest down point here is it lack of seasoning, maybe I am a 重口味 person, so it's sad that this not my favourite.

3) Portuguese egg tart: it's a bit sweet to my liking, the crust taste great almost like heavy taste of milk & butter(I think), and one let down is the crust falls apart easily, so better use your fork, I prefer to eat the tart with my hand.

Overall not bad, might come back for other food.

It's a cozy & chill ambience for family & friends gatherings. The Germany pancakes was really nice! And surprisingly the Carbonara Spagetti also very tasty! Chicken karagae just nice with the tartar sauce. Worth a visit!

Roast chicken is nice. Seafood chao mien not nice & too salty. Portugese egg tart base is like pineapple tart. Its ok. Expensive.

the food tasted good. Service was a little slow with some restrictions. I ordered a chicken chop, but the vegetables were burnt — the staff replaced it with just two pieces of vegetables, which was quite funny. I think they could improve on that and offer a better replacement. Otherwise, it was a decent experience.

Food quality is always high. Never had a bad meal here. KUDOS to kitchen team. Front of house staff are pretty slow and are not great with recommendations etc.

Amazing service by that one Chinese guy at the cashier. So friendly and welcoming. The cakes are so good (the Tim tam cake and the salted caramel chocolate cake), amazing!

Food is cooked well, tasty and of good, fresh quality. Celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary here. You get what you pay for. Service staff just needs to communicate and smile better.

The food taste is okay overall. It would be even better if the waiters could serve with a friendlier, smiley attitude. My chicken was unfortunately not fully cooked and still had some raw parts, but after informing the waiter, she promptly replaced it with a new plate. The environment is good — very spacious and comfortable for dining.

Red Kettle at The Gardens Mall has become a favorite spot for me and my colleagues — we’ve visited countless times and tried a variety of dishes, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently good, and the prices are quite reasonable compared to other restaurants in the mall.

I especially love their egg tart, all the chops, spaghetti, and salads — everything is well-prepared and flavorful. The environment is cozy and comfortable, and even when the restaurant is full, it’s never too noisy for a good conversation.

After so many great visits, I feel like I owe Red Kettle a well-deserved five-star review!

A cosy place with nice coffee and desserts. Lots of bread too. 20200216 Back here again for late lunch, had the porkie mantou which is similar to a vietnamese banh mi. Just yums

I’ve always loved the food here. While the prices are on the premium side, the presentation and plating more than make up for them. The bakeries are also great, from their signature egg tarts to a variety of breads which can be sliced upon ordering.

Red Kettle|A Hidden Gem at The Gardens Mall ☕🍴
📍 Located at the lower ground of the new wing – generous portions, great flavors, and Fish & Chips in my personal Top 3!

This cozy spot is tucked away in the newer area of The Gardens Mall, on the lower ground floor. Honestly, if you’re not intentionally heading in, it’s easy to miss from the inside — but funny enough, if you’re driving past the outside road, you’ll spot it right away! 😆

Once you walk in, you’ll be surprised by how spacious it is. Lots of seats, comfy atmosphere, and a relaxing vibe overall ✨

Here’s what we ordered👇🏻

🐟 Fish & Chips
✔️ Easily one of my Top 3 in KL!
The fish fillet was thick, fresh, and had zero fishy smell. The batter was just right — not too thick or greasy.
It came with hand-cut fries 🍟 and a few onion rings 🧅, which added a nice crunch.
The sauce? So generous! They gave us a whole bowl of it — no stinginess here. Perfect for dipping and super satisfying! 💯

🍗 Char Grilled Garlic Chicken
This one was a total surprise — in the best way!
The grilled chicken was perfectly cooked: crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside. The garlic sauce added depth and flavor.
It was served on a bed of millet (yes, millet!) with a variety of veggies — every bite was a new flavor and texture. Wholesome, hearty, and fulfilling! 🌾🥦

💰 While the prices are slightly on the higher side, the portion sizes are huge, making it actually quite worth it.
If you’re not a big eater, one main dish is enough for two people to share 👯‍♀️

Only downside was the service — the space is large, but there were only a few staff on duty, so we had to wait a bit when ordering or asking for water ⌛. Hope they’ll add more staff in the future!

We heard their Portuguese Tart is super famous, but we were way too full this time — definitely coming back to try it next round! 🥹

📌In short:
A high-quality café hidden in the heart of the mall — perfect for catch-ups, casual dates, or just treating yourself to a solid meal ❤️

Food is great! Portion is just nice. Great ambient, prefer dinner over lunch crowd as lunch can be pretty noisy but dinner is better. Food price is kinda pricey - it’s more than Madam Kwan just FYI. Drinks definitely overpriced. Toilet is definitely inconvenient as the restaurant is located at another side. For Service, I gave 4 star for the reason the place is huge with only a few staff.

I can't believe I've never left a review!

I came here almost every week last year when I had appointments nearby, and I still come here whenever I crave salads or when I'm just around the area.

Red Kettle serves the best salads with the widest variety, hands down. I tried their angel hair in broth once, but it wasn't for me (too mushy for my taste). Their Big Breakfast easily serves two with a generous spread of meats and breads.

The egg tarts are fantastic! I am *not* an egg tart person (normally can't stand the smell), but I found the egg tarts here so good that I refused to share my serving with my brother!

For drinks, I either opt for tea or go for the Vietnamese coffee that has a great aroma and taste. My stomach hasn't been able to tolerate a wide range of black coffee for years, and only a handful of places serves black coffee that I can consume without getting nausea 30 mins later. The Vietnamese is one of those that I can drink and feel alright after that.

The staff members are friendly, highly alert and observant, which makes it easy to get their attention to put in orders or ask for anything else. Ambiance is well lit, clean and air-conditioned.

The lunch crowd does add to the waiting time, but if one is not in a hurry, it's worth the wait. Price is on the higher end, but I'm happy to pay for the quality that I get.

Always a satisfying meal at the Red Kettle. Been here a few times and the food is great in big portions. I highly recommend their salt beef sandwich, pork chop and of course their egg tarts! The only downside is that in my latest visit, the mushroom soup was slightly too salty but we finished it anyway. Hope it will be better the next time. Other than that I think I don't really have any complains as the environment is great and service crew are attentive and helpful too. Just come early as it will get crowded by brunch.
